I have loved reading and writing for as long as I can remember. Reading has allowed me to learn new techniques, languages, and styles to apply to my own stories. Fiction has always been a personal favorite of mine. There's something about allowing one's mind to go free with the details that has always captured my attention. I typically read in the summer, when I have no classes and can enjoy my free time. My favorite genre is romance, however I'm content reading anything from horror and thrillers to fantasy and sci-fi.
Some of my favorite books include Silver Linings Playbook, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Hunger Games Trilogy, The Twilight Saga, and The Phantom of the Opera. Silver Linings Playbook is about two unstable young adults who find comfort and eventually love in each other. Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a shy teenage boy who comes out of his shell and experiences the fun in the world, eventually falling in love with his best friend. The Hunger Games Trilogy is about a teenage girl living in a dystopian world fighting for her life, but also caught in a love triangle. Twilight Saga is about a teenage girl who dangerously falls in love with a vampire. Finally, Phantom of the Opera is about a disfigured musical genius living in the basement of an opry house that becomes obsessed and falls in love with one of the soprano performers.
All of these stories have a common theme: falling in love. Before this class, I wasn't exploring the different types of literature. I have never personally enjoyed reading poetry, and dramas rarely crossed my mind. After reading multiple stories, dramas, and poems throughout this course my mind has really opened up. Things I never thought I would enjoy reading suddenly provoked deeper thoughts and led to some interesting class discussions. I have enjoyed exploring literature in this class and acquiring more knowledge about some of America's classic stories, poems, and dramas.
